Late this afternoon, right before time to go home, I was walking through the warehouse facing the dock doors, where the honeygold early-evening sunlight was shooting through a crevice between the doorway and the edge of the trailer backed up to it. Our warehouse, being a busy warehouse, is a fairly dusty place. But this proved to be a good thing, as I became momentarily entranced by the dust motes swirling all sparkly-lazy through the air in the sunbeam.

As I watched them dance, I was taken back to a time years in the past, when my best buddy Lisa and I were little, playing downstairs at my old house one evening. The sun was coming down through the windows in much the same way, pouring golden light all over the arm of the old faded-yellow sofa. We noticed the few dust particles drifting in the light, and for some reason, we decided it would be great fun to beat on the sofa arm, thereby releasing clouds of additional dust particles to dance in the sun and delight us.

This occurrence, I suddenly recalled today, was what led to one of our favorite inside jokes, usually busted out when we were being especially creative and random.

"No," we'd proudly declare in unison, "we're not weird...!"

Ah, memories!
